Biography

Dr Antony Lighten is a leader in the fertility field in Sydney. He has 20 years of experience in treating patients in fertility clinics in both the UK and Australia. Dr Lighten practices at the Genea North West Clinic in Bella Vista where he is the clinical director. He specialises in all aspects of fertility treatments including IVF, Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) & fertility surgery. As the clinical director, Dr Lighten has introduced several new services at the clinic to improve success rates and to give patients the best possible results.

Dr Lighten takes time to listen to patient's concerns and discuss the range of treatment options. He is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients through the most up to date science. He also encourages patients to make simple positive lifestyle changes which can help improve the chance of a pregnancy and help them cope better with the stresses and strains of their fertility treatments.

Experience & Qualifications

Originally from the United Kingdom, Antony graduated from Cambridge University Medical School and gained a PhD at Imperial College in London. He completed his Specialist training in London and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Further studies at the Oxford University Fertility Unit led to him completing Sub-Specialist training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery (CCSST) which is the UK equivalent of the CREI.

Antony is an experienced fertility surgeon specialising in complex surgical procedures which improve the chance of both spontaneous pregnancy and pregnancy after IVF. He performs fertility operations such as advanced laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis, hysteroscopic surgery for intra-uterine problems and surgery for fibroids, at Northwest Private Hospital.

Antony is doubly qualified as both a medical doctor and a science PhD. He has several publications on genetics, embryo development and PCOS. He researched for his PhD at laboratories at the world famous Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital in London where the first Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis treatment (PGD) was performed. Antony has been awarded several prizes for his research on embryo development including a prestigious prize from the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology in 1997. With a strong science background, Antony bases all his treatments on the most up to date scientific evidence.
